DromonClass completes one year in ISOLA – An Innovative European Research Project
16 December 2021
Dromon Bureau of Shipping (DromonClass) has completed one year in participating in the project “Innovative and Integrated Security System on Board covering the life cycle of a Passenger ships voyage” (hereinafter referred to as ISOLA).
The Project is covered under the EU’s Horizon 2020, Research and Framework Programme and it is expected to be completed by 31 August 2023.
ABSTRACT
ISOLA combines state-of-the-art technologies blended with novel solutions to enhance the Situational Awareness and support the assigned Ship Security Officer & Crew to the execution of their duties especially to the Ship Security Plan. The suggested system is contextually aligned and harmonized with the existing regulations. Constraints to integration will also be looked at with attention given to key architecture framework criteria such as standardization, interoperability, openness, flexibility, adaptability, ability to evolve, scalability, modularity, simplicity, usability, robustness, information management, decision support and mission effectiveness, and legacy integration.
ISOLA develops, integrates, tests, deploys, demonstrates and validates a systematic and fully automated security approach by incorporating innovative technologies for sensing, monitoring, data fusion, alarming and reporting real-time during illegal incidents. This will ensure high level of security among all the passengers of the ship and augmentation of the Ship Security Plan.
MAIN OBJECTIVES
The main objectives of ISOLA are the following:
- to create strategies and methods in order to a ship to easily integrated solutions regarding passengers and crew safety in the existing ship systems;
- to propose innovative sensor and visual technologies to support security safety;
- to create a complex collaborative system for monitoring and detecting security incidents and events;
- to create early warning methods for the ship security crew to prevent security issues;
- to collect incident evidence by exploiting the Augmented Reality;
- to allow easy engagement of different authorities in a ship related crisis; and
- to model, classify and easily report a security event.
CONSORTIUM
ISOLA consortium consists of 24 Partners from 9 European countries, 2 non-EU countries, DromonClass as independent International Classification Society and Verification Body, 4 Border Authorities – Coast Guards representatives, 3 Ship SMEs , 2 maritime security SMEs, 1 Public Security Agency, 3 Academic/Research Institutes and 10 Technical SMEs.
Each Partner contributes its own particular skills and has a critical role within the Project. Each Partner’s expertise smoothly complements on the others and all together form the full set of capabilities to lead ISOLA to success.
OUR ROLE IN THE PROJECT
DromonClass participates in field demonstrations and testing of the project’s platform. More specifically, DromonClass tests the platform via real exercises-field trials in which each use case developed will be simulated involving technical, research partners and end-users, according to the scenarios.
SPECIAL THANKS
DromonClass would like to thank all Parties involved in the Project, for the effort to put together this project and for trusting our Organization to be part of this exciting yet important Project.
We strongly believe that our participation in ISOLA Project is another milestone for DromonClass and at the same time, confirms our verification role within the industry.
