Panama Concentrated Inspection Campaign on ISPS

The Panama Maritime Authority has launched a Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) on ISPS Code ending on 30 December 2020.

The Panama Maritime Authority has issued MMN-17/2020 to communicate the launching of a Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) on ISPS Code, which shall be held for three (3) months, commencing from 1 October 2020 and ending on 30 December 2020.

The campaign will target compliance on all vessels, regardless of type, and will examine specific areas related to the campaign in conjunction with the regular Port State Control inspection. A ship will be subject to only one (1) inspection under this CIC during the period of the campaign.

The purpose of the CIC on ISPS Code is to ensure that:

  • The vessels and their crew are familiar with the requirements ISPS code and Merchant Marine Circulars #359, #133, #371 and #321; and
  • Ship Masters and Crew understand their assigned roles and duties in case of emergency and enhance their familiarity with the situations so that they can act immediately when circumstances arise.

The results of the campaign will be analysed and findings will be presented to the governing bodies.

ShipOwners/ Managers/ Operators of Panama flying vessels are invited to review the minimum standards for ISPS Code, to comply with the relevant conventions to assure compliance with Panama requirements and this campaign.
