IMMARBE issues a Warning for vessels caught intentionally deactivating the LRIT & AIS

Dromon wishes to inform all parties concerned regarding IMMARBE issued Merchant Marine Notice MMN-19-005 concerning the LRIT and AIS equipment.

Ship Owners/ Managers/ Operators | Surveyors / Auditors
The International Merchant Marine Registry of Belize (IMMARBE) has issued the Merchant Marine Notice MMN-19-005 and wish to remind all interested parties that:
- All passenger ships, including high-speed passenger crafts, cargo ships, including high-speed craft of 300 GT and above and mobile offshore drilling units shall be fitted with a Long-range identification and tracking of ships (LRIT);
- All ships of 300GT and above engaged on international voyages and cargo ships of 500 GT an above not engaged on international voyages and passenger ships irrespective of size shall be fitted with an automatic identification system (AIS).
Any Belizean flagged vessel that intentionally deactivate the Long-range Identification and tracking equipment (LRIT) and/or Automatic Identification System (AIS) will be subject to disciplinary actions in accordance with regulations 7 (Fines) and 8 (Cancellation of Registration or Documents) of the Statutory Instrument 156 of 1999 – Disciplinary Regulations.

Owners/ Managers/ Operators of Belizean flagged vessels should take into consideration above information and to ensure the IMMARBE Notice’s provisions are enforced on board in order to avoid any issues raised from non-compliance and/or Port State Control Inspections.
